No difficulties. Climb between Oradour and Lieuriac on wet footpath. Beautiful view to the mountains and the Aubrac plateau.
Cantal Mountains are situated in the heart of the Cantal Massif which is one of the largest group of volcanoes in Europe. They were formed by successive volcanic eruptions 30 million years ago. The Planeze of Saint Flour and the Margaride situated on the periphery of the Cantal volcano are distinctive for their crystalline soil.
D – DEPART: ORADOUR SQUARE (opposite the fountain and the Mairie).Take the road towards the cemetery direction SAINT-FLOUR then left towards LIEURIAC.
1 - After 300 m on the right take the good path climbing to LIEURIAC.
2 - In the village you reach the bread oven, the “courderc” (common village place) and bend in the road.
3 - Then higher up a good path on the left leads to an ancient Roman road.
4 - Follow the road on the right for 1 km (views of the Plomb du Cantal, the Puy
Rocher and Prat de Bouc) and on the left a path, bypasses the Puy Renel ( views of the Planeze of Saint Flour and the Margaride) and ends up in FRAISSINET.
5 - In the village cross the road and keep right. The path leads to LES MAISONS
and the D48.
6 - Cross the road and take the path opposite, after a ford it arrives at RECOULES.
7 - Follow in the same direction for 100m, then a sandy path for 500m.
8 - Pass near LA RODDE. Go right, then left towards CHABANNE.
9 - Possibility to go there and back towards the hill at left, the viewpoint of Cheyla. View to the Margeride, the Aubrac plateau and the village of Oradour. Go down to CHABANNE then right. Pass the cowshed. After the village a path on the left leads to the D56.
10 - Continue left until ORADOUR and the departure point. See also the abreuvoir at right and the gothic church with its square tower.
Mountainbike: Easy level. Time: 1hr and 40 minutes.
Attention: Between 1 and 2 wet path. Between 5 and 6 electric fence possible.
